In a surprise to no one, Republican Shane Reeves beat democrat Gayle Jordan by a nearly 50 percent margin in the special election to fill the Tennessee State Senate seat vacated by Jim Tracy.

"I will work to be the voice of the people in Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall, Moore, and Rutherford counties," Reeves said in a Facebook post after the results were in.

"I am grateful for everyone who voted today, whether for me or my opponent, and for everyone who worked on this election," he said. "Whether Democrat or Republican, Conservative or Liberal we must all move forward together to grow our district, bring new jobs and opportunities, and tackle the issues facing our state. I will work hard to be your Senator."
