A violent summer in Murfreesboro continues with 10th serious shooting

Murfreesboro officers at a possible road rage shooting Thursday, July 9 on NE Broad Street.

On Friday, July 17, Murfreesboro saw it's 10th serious shooting of the summer, according to a press release from the Mufreesboro Police Department.

MPD responded to the shooting at 4:41 p.m. Friday, July 17 in the 700 block of Southeast Broad Street. One person had been shot and taken to the hospital. The shooter is in custody but the incident is under investigation by MPD's Criminal Investigations Division. 

The shooting was one in a series of incidents that marks a bloody summer for Murfreesboro.

On July 9, Rodney Armstrong, 29, of Murfreesboro was killed in a shooting. The suspect, Zolan Miles, 21, turned himself in at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office shortly after the shooting. He has been charged with second-degree murder.

At the same time, MPD officers responded to a shooting in the 1500 block of NE Broad Street. One person shot in leg, taken to the hospital in a possible road rage incident.

On July 4, a man who shot a woman multiple times and fled the scene at the Midtown Estates Apartments on Battle Avenue. Suspect Brandon Francis turned himself into authorities on July 11.

On June 27, a Murfreesboro man was arrested for shooting at a home multiple times with seven people inside, including a 15-month-old. 

 

On June 24, multiple stolen firearms were stolen during a robbery and shooting of a Murfreesboro man at Forrest Oaks II. One suspect was arrested and the guns have been recovered.

In the early hours of Thursday, June 18, Murfreesboro Police Department detectives say a dispute between acquaintances led to a triple shooting at a home in the 1700 block of Herald Lane.

On Thursday evening, June 18, a man was shot multiple times outside a building at The Pointe at Raiders Crossing Apartments, 2315 N. Tennessee Blvd. The suspect who shot him is still on the run. 

On Friday morning, June 19, a man was found shot to death in a car in the parking lot of The Cove at Center Point 5 Apartments, 1203 Old Lascassas Rd.

On Monday, June 22, a botched drug deal and attempted robbery led to the shooting of two men in the parking lot of a liquor store near MTSU campus.
