CPR Classes

The newest and best way to save someone's life doesn't involve locking lips anymore. Now Hands-Only CPR is recommended Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and it doesn't ask for any mouth-to-mouth breaths.

If you wish to learn this technique, the Rutherford County Fire-Rescue Department is offering free classes starting in February (see the schedule below). Registration for these classes will be made available online shortly, watch the RCFRD Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.

It is recommended for use by people who witness a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an “out-of-hospital” setting (such as home, work, or in a park). This hands-only technique performed by a bystander has been shown to be as effective as conventional CPR in the first few minutes.

Cardiac arrest - a leading cause of death, is an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) and disrupts the flow of blood to the brain, lungs and other organs.  Each year, a large percentage of out of hospital cardiac arrests occur in the United States – with 70% occurring in homes.  Only half of those patients receive the immediate care they need.  With Hands-Only CPR training, you could be the difference for someone you love!
