Walk for child abuse victims and honor the 'Hometown Heroes' that help

Apr 18, 2018 at 08:00 am by Child Advocacy Center

“Bring a team of walkers on April 20 and show the community your support of child abuse victims at the 3rd annual Hometown Heroes Walk for Children,” said Child Advocacy Center Director Sharon De Boer.

“When the Hometown Heroes walk on Friday, April 20, we hope to see a community rallying for children,” De Boer continued.

The Hometown Heroes Walk is free. The Child Advocacy Center is selling event t-shirts for $10 with proceeds supporting child abuse program services.

Online registration is available until Thursday, April 19 at www.cacrutherford.org.  Walkers also have the option to register the day of the event beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Murfreesboro Civic Plaza.

The opening ceremony will start at 11:45 a.m. with Mrs. Tennessee presiding.  The two mile walk kicks off at noon and concludes with a picnic lunch at the Child Advocacy Center located at 1040 Samsonite Blvd., Murfreesboro.

"When a child gets the courage to reach out for help, that activates the local Hometown Heroes who work as a team to help children every day,” De Boer said. “Department of Children's Services assesses safety and protects children. Law enforcement investigates the crime and arrests perpetrators. The District Attorney's Office aggressively prosecutes offenders, while the Child Advocacy Center helps child victims and their families heal from the trauma.”

"The Hometown Heroes Walk for Children is a wonderful opportunity to come together and show child abuse victims how much we support them," De Boer said.
