"We are few, a joyful few, a brotherhood forged in the crucible of war. He who spills his blood alongside me becomes my brother."

In this stirring address, King Henry rouses his outnumbered soldiers, igniting their spirits with a call that resonates through the ages. His words serve as a powerful reminder of the honor and deep camaraderie that emerge from the shared struggles of battle. Each drop of blood shed on the battlefield does more than stain the earth; it forges an unbreakable bond, transforming mere acquaintances into brothers united by a sacred oath.

On November 10, 2025, the Marine Corps will celebrate its 250th birthday with a series of events that will span the nation and reach around the world. These celebrations will include traditional cake-cutting ceremonies, elegant balls, and special exhibits that honor the rich history and legacy of the Corps' guiding principles of “honor, courage, and commitment.”

Marines, modern-day warriors, stand shoulder to shoulder, confronting their fears together and discovering profound love and unwavering loyalty amid the chaos and hardship that war and training for war bring—a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. They are ready in a moment's notice to defend our nation in the air, on land, and at sea. The emblem of the Marine Corps—the eagle, globe, and anchor—symbolizes these three domains of operation.

This sentiment deeply resonates within the ranks of the United States Marine Corps, an extraordinary institution that is now celebrating a remarkable milestone: two and a half centuries of steadfast service. Since its inception on November 10, 1775, the legacy of the Marines has been one of unwavering resolve, illuminated by their courageous actions on storied battlefields like Guadalcanal, Chosin Reservoir, and Marjah.

Time and again, these brave individuals have demonstrated their commitment to one another, always prepared to stand firm in the face of adversity, never yielding to the pressures of retreat. Their history is rich with tales of valor, both in fierce combat far from home and in the essential work of uplifting and revitalizing their communities. Throughout history, the Marine Corps has proven that there is no better friend and no worse enemy than a United States Marine.

As we take a moment to honor two and a half centuries of sacrifice, service, and brotherhood, we reflect on the enduring commitment of the Marine Corps to uphold the values they cherish. From the heroic days of the Revolutionary War to modern missions spanning the globe, they have remained resolute in their duty to protect and defend our nation against all threats.

Our motto is Semper Fidelis, Latin for “Always Faithful.” It is the motto of every Marine—an eternal and collective commitment to the success of our battles, the progress of our nation, and the steadfast loyalty to the fellow Marines we fight alongside. Established in 1883, this motto distinguishes the bond developed and shared between Marines. It goes beyond words that are spoken, as it is a warriorhood that is lived. It encapsulates a loyalty that withstands the test of time, a pledge that binds them not only to their country but to one another in a bond that transcends the ordinary obligations of duty.

As we pay tribute to the bravery of U.S. Marines, both past and present, we must also confront the ongoing struggles that many veterans face long after they have hung up their uniforms. Challenges such as PTSD and other serious health issues continue to affect their lives, casting long shadows over their experiences. Veteran suicides are still an issue we must address. By acknowledging these ongoing battles, we affirm our commitment to supporting them, ensuring that the bonds of brotherhood remain strong and that no Marine has to face their challenges alone or in isolation.

As we gather to celebrate this momentous occasion, let us not only remember the valor of those who have served but also embrace the spirit of unity and unwavering support that defines the Marine Corps, ensuring that its legacy continues to inspire future generations.
