A body believed to be that of Casey Lawhorn, 23, has been found in Mississippi, according to a social media post by the Jasper County, Miss., Sheriff's Department.

Lawhorn, a former MTSU student, was on the run after East Ridge, Tenn., police say he shot two people on Sunday morning.

Around 9:45 a.m. Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson posted on the department's Facebook page that "a body has been found in the Vossburg, MS area. It is believed to be the body of TN murder suspect, Casey Lawhorn."

Lawhorn reportedly shot his mother, Vi Lawhorn, and her friend Avery Gaines, 22, of Ringgold, Ga., around 5:00 a.m. Sunday in the East Ridge home he shared with his mother, according to the Chattanooga Times-Free Press

According to a news release from the East Ridge Police Department, Lawhorn called the police to report that he had shot two people.

When officers arrived, Lawhorn had fled the scene and they had to force themselves into the home. They found Vi Lawhorn and Gaines shot to death inside.

News reports have also detailed a Facebook post allegedly by Lawhorn in which he gives details of the shooting. The post has been removed.

"Before I start, I need to emphasize that I take full responsibility for my actions," Casey Lawhorn is quoted as writing in the Times-Free Press. "Nothing anyone has or hasn't done to me caused this, my decisions and my failures are my own."

Lawhorn then explained what led up to the shooting. He said he first shot Gaines with a .22 long rifle before turning the gun on his mother.

He also said he wrote the post from his car after it had broken down on the Interstate 59 in between Meridian and Laurel, Miss. He was not with the car when police located it and is believed to still be in the area.

Neighbors told the Times-Free Press the family moved into the area in February. Vi Lawhorn made a good impression while her son was a loner and gave neighbors "the creeps," the article said.

Lawhorn attended MTSU from 2013-2016, MTSU VP of Communications Andrew Oppman told The Tennessean. He withdrew from classes in September 2016.

Casey Lawhorn was described as a white male, standing 5'5" and weighing 108 pounds. He is likely armed and considered dangerous. Anyone who sees him should call police immediately.
