Murfreesboro Police arrested Friday, Feb. 23 a 32-year-old man for taking a shot at a prostitute after she refused to do everything he wanted.

When Cody T. Thomas of Murfreesboro answered a backpage.com ad, he didn't think the night would end with him facing aggravated assault and patronizing prostitution charges.

Thomas admitted to police that he answered an ad and arranged for a prostitute to perform certain acts for $200. "Further investigation revealed that there was a disagreement between the parties regarding the activities being performed," according to an arrest report.

Instead of working the disagreement out like adults, the report said Thomas followed the woman out of his hotel room on South Church Street.

"An altercation ensued and (the prostitute) fled the parking lot in the pickup truck driving erratically while Mr. Thomas fired shots … with a handgun," the report said.

When MPD officers responded, they saw the pickup entering Interstate 24 Westbound at the South Church Street interchange. A brief pursuit took place but was broken off at State Route 840. A Rutherford County Sheriff's deputy was able to apprehend the truck.

Both the prostitute and her driver were arrested and charged with a variety of offenses including evading arrest.

Woman reports neighbors eavesdropping on her phone calls

A Murfreesboro woman called police Feb. 28 to report that her neighbors had been eavesdropping on her phone calls and the calls of others.

The 68-year-old woman said the three men "had radios that could pick up cell phone conversations," according to an incident report.

She said they had been listening to her phone for more than a year and she wanted to report them for stalking.

The officers told her the complaint didn't meet the law against stalking but it does violate a state law prohibiting electronic surveillance.

Moral: Be careful want you say on the phone. No telling who's listening.
