Snow and ice impact MLK Day events

Okay campers, rise, and shine, and don't forget your booties ‘cause it’s cold out there… it’s cold out there every day!

Too soon for the Groundhog Day quotes?

The weekend's weird winter slush storm means roads are currently coated with ice, making driving hazardous today. Do what you know to do and call or check social media pages before you try to make it to a destination this morning.

Some MLK Day events have already announced cancellations or postponements:

  • Discovery Center has postposed their MLK Day celebration,
  • The City of LaVergne has canceled its MLK Day celebration.
  • MTSU has cancelled its MLK Day ceremony and will live-stream last year's virtual event beginning at 6 p.m. on the university's Facebook pageYouTube channel and on True Blue TV.
  • The Murfreesboro March is cancelled, but the American Red Cross and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Blood Drive and the Backpack Sort-a-Thon will continue at Patterson Park Community Center today at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. See updates here.
If you must travel today, the City of Murfreesboro Facebook page posted reminders to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Also, allow plenty of room for salt trucks or risk having your vehicle a-salted.

The latest road conditions for the state can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
