Ask Ellie: Should I continue to fish or cut my bait?

Jun 23, 2021 at 08:00 am by Ask Ellie

Dear Ellie: My boyfriend of many years is not the nicest to me. He makes fun of my weight, my friends, my family, and more recently my new job. I am not getting through to him that this job is important to me. We have been together for many years, and breaking up just seems like I wasted five years of my life.

What do I do?

- Fish or Cut Bait

Dear Fish or Cut Bait: While five years is a long while, I feel you have already lost. Ask yourself why you would like to be with someone who does not appreciate your beauty and makes fun of your weight. Making fun of anyone’s weight is cruel and is reflective of your boyfriend being an insensitive bully. Making fun of your friends is also his insecurities coming out and is immature. Making fun of your family is insolent, this man is screaming at the top of his lungs he has no respect for you.

You asked for my advice by writing; it is time to cut bait and run as fast as you can. You have value and are a beautiful woman. Surround yourself with your friends and family that love and adore you. This guy in your life needs to be in your past, he is not worthy of you.

Respectfully,
Ellie
