Rutherford Sheriff's detective to appear on Investigation Discovery true crime show

Sheriff’s Detective Ty Downing will discuss his investigation of the Jack Rains murder case in 2007 on the nationally broadcast Investigation Discovery channel.

The show will air at 9 p.m. tonight.

General “Jack” Rains, 83, was fatally shot at his McFarlin Avenue home. He was a former Woodbury Police Chief and state trooper.

In February 2009, Tina Williamson was convicted of second-degree murder and felony murder. She is serving a 71-year prison sentence after being found guilty of second-degree murder and felony murder of Rains.

The jury convicted Williamson of shooting Rains five times in the back of the head Aug. 31, 2007, at his home off Old Woodbury Highway. He was a state trooper in the 1950s.

She was sentenced to life for felony murder, a murder committed during a robbery, but has filed a motion for a new trial.

Downing will discuss the case on "The Devil Speaks," a six-part true crime series that uses audio from police interviews, 911 calls and more. Rains' murder will the focus of the premiere episode titled "Dirty Little Secret."
