Shawn Whitsell and Taiisha Bradley are pleased to co-host "Dashikis & Daiquiris" from 9 p.m.-midnight Friday, Aug. 10 at Vine Studios in downtown Murfreesboro. The event is geared toward the Arts community and is free. The only requirements are "good vibes only" and a dashiki!

"I created Dashikis & Daiquiris two years ago to bring people together to network, fellowship, celebrate the arts and express cultural pride," said Whitsell, event founder. "I just want people to enjoy each other's company, have a great time and leave with smiles on their faces."

Bradley had the idea to bring Dashikis & Daiquiris to Murfreesboro when she was planning an artist's reception for her cousin April Nealey, a visiting artist from Charlotte, NC.

"Last year I encouraged April to apply to have her art exhibited at The Center for the Arts where I work. She was accepted for August 2018, which lined up the timing of Boro Art Crawl. We were looking for something to do afterward and I stumbled upon some photos from past Dashikis & Daquiris events in Nashville. I recognized Shawn Whitsell immediately because he is a currently directing 'Memphis' at The Center. I asked him if we could partner to host a Dashikis and Daquiris event in Murfreesboro and make it my cousin's artist's reception also, and he was instantly on board!"

Whitsell shares, "I am so excited to be partnering with Taiisha Bradley to bring this event to Murfreesboro."

The event has an established following from Nashville and Whitsell and Bradley are excited to bring the event to the people of Rutherford County. The evening will be full of good food, good music, creative souls, and of course, art. There will be free admission with RSVP, free snacks and daiquiris (nonalcoholic also). There will be live hot food, desserts, live painting, body painting, art raffles, themed shopping and other surprises.
