More than 100 Rutherford County attorneys weighed in on who they think will be the best choice to sit on the newly created Circuit Court seat.

In the run-up to the Trial Court Vacancy Commission's consideration of the seven applicants for the vacancy in the 16th Judicial District, the Rutherford & Cannon County Bar Association asked its members who they thought was the best choice. The commission meets on Aug. 8 in Murfreesboro to select nominees for the bench.

In the Bar's survey, General Sessions Judge Lisa Eischeid topped the list in order of preference with Darrell Scarlett coming in a close second.

The remaining candidates in order of preference are Chuck Ward, Adam Dodd, Michelle Blaylock-Howser, Trevor Lynch and Matthew Moffitt.

When asked to rank the candidates on experience and judicial demeanor, the same top candidates led the rankings.

Darrell Scarlett scored highest on experience, followed closely by Lisa Eischeid and Chuck Ward.

Eischeid topped the list for judicial demeanor, followed by Scarlett and Ward.

This new judicial position was created by the state legislature earlier this year and convenes Sept. 1.

The commission's meeting will include a public hearing starting at 9 a.m., during which anyone may express their opinions in opposition to the applicants. The Commission is expected to vote immediately following the interviews and forward three names to Gov. Bill Haslam for his consideration.
