Photos: Juneteenth at Bradley Academy

Bradley Academy Museum celebrated its centennial and Juneteenth from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at the historic schoolhouse.

The day included a parade, festivals, re-enactments, performances, speakers, craft vendors, music, food, and more. THe parade started on Main Street in front of Central Magnet School and ended At Bradley Academy Museum on Academy Street where the festivities took place.

Juneteenth is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of African-American slaves throughout the former Confederacy of the southern United States.

Celebrated on June 19, the word is a portmanteau of “June” and “nineteenth.”
