A 37-year-old woman was reportedly shot dead by her boyfriend Tuesday night in Murfreesboro, according to a statement from police.

Brandon Robichaud, 27, of Old Fort Parkway was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Leanne Austin, 37, of Old Fort Parkway, MPD spokeswoman Amy Norville said.

Robichaud was found just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 sitting in the middle of West Main Street near Bridge Avenue, Norville said.

"Upon arrival, officers were told by witnesses the male subject had made statements of having shot someone at InTowne Suites at 1345 Old Fort Parkway and had run towards that location," she said.

Officers followed him to the rear of InTowne Suites and eventually to the room he shared with Austin.

"Ms. Austin was found in the room and had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced deceased at the scene," Norville said.

Robichaud was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with first-degree murder. He is currently at the Rutherford County Adult Detention center being held without bond.
