Friends and family of slain artist David Riemens are holding a memorial gathering on Sunday, March 25.

The celebration will be held from 3-9 p.m. in the Cedars of Lebanon State Park Assembly Lodge, 507 Old Murfreesboro Rd. in Lebanon.

Friends are invited to bring artwork to display during the memorial. An open-mic session will begin at 6 p.m. with music to follow.

Riemens disappeared Aug. 8, 2012, after meeting an unknown person at the Dollar General in Watertown, Tenn.

On Jan. 25, his remains were found off Taylor Road, about two miles outside of Watertown. On Sunday, Jan. 28, the Wilson County Sheriff's Office had confirmed the remains of Riemens.

"The remains of David Riemens were located in 2018 within a close proximity to his vehicle, and this case continues to be diligently investigated," the Wilson County Sheriff's Office said in a Feb. 27 press release.

No cause of death has been released by the Wilson County Sheriff.

Wilson County Crime Stoppers announced a reward of up to $1,000 for any information that would assist in determining the circumstances of his disappearance. His family also offered an additional reward of up to $2,000, according to the press release.

Long-time friend Laura Nuessle, wife of Donny, described Reimens as a man who didn't care much for possessions and was "a bit of a hippie."

"He was not materialistic. The only thing that he would covet would be cookies," she told legendary writer Ken Beck in an article for The Wilson Post.

Sheriff's Detective BJ Stafford said he couldn't find anyone with a harsh word against him. "In fact, I really haven’t found anyone who didn’t like him and that’s what makes it unique,” the detective said.
