Plans for a whiskey distillery were given a tentative nod of approval by the Murfreesboro City Council Planning Commission Wednesday night.

The commission unanimously recommended the plans, submitted by Sazerac Company, to build a $86 million liquor-making facility on 55 acres on Asbury Lane off Medical Center Parkway.

Now the plans head to the Murfreesboro City Council, where they will get an earful from neighbors of the proposed development.

Former DA Guy Dotson found dead

WGNS reported former Rutherford County District Attorney Guy Dodson died Jan. 16. He was 76-years-old.

The DNJ expounded on the story, reporting that Dodson was discovered by his son-in-law with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy will be performed.

Dodson served as DA until 1995 when he was succeeded by Bill Whitesell.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Ketron announces grant for library

The Rutherford County Library System (or the library formerly known as Linebaugh) has been awarded the Training Opportunities for the Public grant for $1,919.50 by the Tennessee Secretary of State, WGNS reported.

State Sen. Bill Ketron made the announcement Thursday about the money that will provide funding for the trainers, hardware, and software for free technology training classes for the community.
