An overprotective friend fired shots at Murfreesboro Police officers, who were responding to a domestic disturbance call, MPD said in a press release.

The officers were called out around 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28 to 1014 Gunnerson Ave. in Murfreesboro because of a verbal altercation between a female occupant of the apartment and her boyfriend.

"Upon the officers’ arrival, a male occupant of the apartment fired shots," said Officer Amy Norville, MPD spokeswoman.

But it wasn't because of a fear of police. Turns out a man inside the apartment thought the boyfriend had returned to the apartment. He fired the shots apparently to protect the two women, two men and two infants in the apartment.

"The male occupant of the apartment who fired the shots is being questioned. The investigation is in its preliminary stages and no information is available regarding potential charges," Norville said.
