Closings & Delays

Stay home if you don’t have to be out on the roads today.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning through 8 p.m. this evening (Jan. 6). Heavy snow is expected throughout the day with total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.

I shouldn't have to tell you that travel could become very difficult, and you should plan on hazardous travel conditions developing this morning and continuing through Friday.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5-1-1.

As of 9:30 a.m., snow is falling across Middle Tennessee rapidly and causing slick roads in Rutherford County. Sheriff's deputies are working four injury crashes on:

  • State Route 96 East (Lascassas Highway).
  • Interstate 24 at the 92-mile marker past the Buchanan Road exit.
  • Weakley Lane at Fate Sanders.
  • Independent Hill Road in West Rutherford County off state Route 96 West (Franklin Highway)
  • State Route 96 West at Coleman Hill Road.

Deputies are handling four non-injury crashes throughout the county on:

  • Cynthia Lane off U.S. Highway 231 (Shelbyville Highway).
  • Burnt Knob Road near Almaville.
  • Interstate 24 at the 86-mile marker near Joe B. Jackson Parkway.
  • Old Nashville Highway at Scenic Drive.
