Rutherford County Sheriff's Capt. Joey King graduated from the School of Police Command sponsored by Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety.

King was among 29 students who graduated from the 10-week class. He received a scholarship from the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association to attend.

The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level college instruction in 27 core blocks of instruction and optional blocks each session.

Major topics include leadership, human resources, employee relations, organizational behavior, applied statistics, planning and policy development, budgeting and resource allocation.

King knew the training would be challenging as he learned many aspects of police management. He felt the pressure to excel and graduated with an A average. He earned 16 college credits at Northwestern University.

“I gained so much knowledge during my 10-week training period,” King said. “The training was invaluable to my future as a law enforcement supervisor. I am grateful to Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh, the Sheriff’s Command staff and the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association for allowing me the opportunity to attend this great training.”

King supervises the Judicial Services Division.
