“The Child Advocacy Center is excited to announce the Hometown Heroes Walk Committee is hosting an amazing silent auction in connection with the event this spring,” said Katie Enzor, Child Advocacy Center development coordinator.

“Whether you can attend the Walk or not, you can show your support for child abuse victims by bidding on silent auction items,” Enzor continued. “All the proceeds from the walk and the silent auction will help us provide critically needed services for child abuse victims.”

The silent auction is located on the Child Advocacy Center’s Facebook page. Community members can place their bids in the comment section under the picture of the basket or item of their choosing until noon on Friday, April 30. You do not have to walk or be present at the event to bid on the incredible silent auction items.

Every April, the Child Protective Investigative Team hosts the annual walk from Murfreesboro’s Civic Plaza to the Child Advocacy Center to encourage community support for child abuse and child sexual abuse victims during National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

This year the event will be held on Friday, April 30, with complimentary shuttles running from the Child Advocacy Center to the event kick-off from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Walkers will check in at the registration table from 10:45-11:30 a.m. Speakers will start at 11:30 a.m. and the Walk will begin at 12 noon. Virtual participants can view the event online at facebook.com/CACRutherford

“This event is truly a work of heart, since the Child Protective Investigative Team works their hearts out every day to respond to child physical abuse, child sexual abuse, and drug endangered children cases,” said Community Education Coordinator Tatum Hochstetler.

In the last 21 years, 10.8% of the population of Rutherford and Cannon Counties has been assisted by the Child Protective Investigative Teams. The Teams have investigated and aggressively prosecuted 16,588 child abuse cases, provided valuable crisis intervention services to 25,243 individuals, and trained 12,191 adults how to protect children from child sexual abuse. The proceeds from the event benefit the children and families that are served every day.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register for the Walk at HERE. Fat Guy’s BBQ will be providing sack lunches, and we want to make sure we have enough food for everyone, Hochstetler said.
