In case of any emergency, call 911. (What to know before calling 911)

Rutherford County has four incorporated cities, the county system and a scattering of volunteer fire departments. Luckily, they all answer when you call for help on 911. But if you want to know who to call if you need help, but not immediately, look no further.

For help during natural disasters, call the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross at 615-893-4272.

Rutherford County Sheriff's Office

The Sheriff's Office is located at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, 940 New Salem Rd., Murfreesboro. The non-emergency is 615-898-7720.

Interesting facts about the RCSO

The first Rutherford County Sheriff was Samuel McBride, who served from 1804-1806. It is currently on its 44th sheriff.

The jail was completed in 1987 and expanded to a 956-bed facility in 1998.

The Sheriff’s Office became the first in Tennessee to initiate the School Resource Officers program. A School Resource Officer is assigned to every county school with two SROs at each county high school. School Crossing Officers guide traffic at each county school to ensure the safety of students.

Fire Protection

Fire protection and paramedic services are provided by Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department within the city limits.

If you live outside the city limits and not within another city, you are likely covered by Rutherford County Fire-Rescue.

In July 2010, five volunteer fire departments and two rescue squads in Rutherford County were combined to form Rutherford County Fire Rescue. Five volunteer department still remain to give Rutherford County full coverage.
