Linebaugh Public Library will hold the first Harry Nelson Memorial Winter Reading Program from Jan. 26 -March 7. Linebaugh’s program has been renamed to honor the memory of one of its regular patrons, Harry Nelson, who loved to tell stories and listen to roots music.

The library will celebrate Nelson and the reading program with a kickoff event at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at the library. The Jake Leg Stompers will play pre-war roots music at 1 p.m.

Patrons are challenged to meet a goal of reading and reviewing at least six books over the course of the program. That’s six books in six weeks or a book each week. All formats are accepted and count toward the goal of six books. Patrons may sign up for the program beginning Jan. 18.

Each week, one reviewer will be randomly selected to receive a free book. At the conclusion of the program, every person who has met the goal will be awarded a gift card from Simply Pure Sweets. They will also receive a waiver for up to $5 in library fines.

One person completing six reviews will receive a Grand Prize: a $100 gift card to The Garden Patch Thrift Shoppe, connected to Greenhouse Ministries, a copy each of this year’s Booker Prize winners, The Testaments by Margaret Atwood and Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo. The name of the winner will also be engraved on a plaque to be displayed in the library.

The 2020 Harry Nelson Memorial Winter Reading Program is sponsored by The Friends of Linebaugh Library.
