Cynosport World Games Dog Agility Championship

Nearly 750 canine athletes from nine different countries are headed to Murfreesboro, TN, to compete in the U.S. Dog Agility Association's prestigious Cynosport World Games Dog Agility Championship, Oct. 23-27 at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum.

The world's best canine athletes will be unleashed individually to race over obstacle courses against the clock while being navigated by their human partner, using only voice and hand signals. Competitors will be battling for the sport's most coveted prizes, including the Grand Prix of Dog Agility World Champion title and the right to compete for more than $10,000 in prize money in the Dog Agility Steeplechase.

There is nothing more entertaining than watching talented dogs performing against the clock over hurdles and A-frames, through tunnels, tire jumps, weave poles and even the see-saw. Easy for spectators to understand, the object is to score the fastest time with the least penalties. Dogs of all breeds and sizes compete in various classes where obstacles are set based on the height and experience of the dog.

"Over the duration of this world-famous event, Rutherford County restaurants, hoteliers and store owners will see a vast increase of business," explained Rutherford County CVB Senior Vice President Barbara Wolke. "The Cynosport World Games not only brings people from across the country and state, but it also attracts tourism from around the world because it is such a popular international competition."

The Tennessee Miller Coliseum will give spectators multiple rings of simultaneous competition. For those who want to participate with their own well-behaved dogs, there are fun events on Saturday and Sunday. Paws-on activities (for a small donation) including herding (dogs in an enclosed area move or herd livestock) lure coursing, (dogs in an enclosed area chase a rabbit-like lure) and Rally Obedience (combines agility and obedience).

"Here at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum, we cannot wait to host this event again," says Rutherford County CVB Chairman and Tennessee Miller Coliseum Manager Travis Emore. "We take pride in having such an unique and prestigious event at our all-purpose facility and expect a great turnout."

Cynosport World Games also features numerous shopping opportunities for pet lovers - perfect for early holiday shoppers. The Coliseum concessions offer food and beverages for those who want to spend the full day. Daily activities run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, through Sunday, Oct. 27, with evening events on Saturday beginning at 6:00 p.m. Event parking is $5 per car on Saturday and Sunday.

The Tennessee Miller Coliseum is located at 304B West Thompson Lane, Murfreesboro, Tenn. 37129.
