Republic Services has donated $125,000 for the renovation and installation of a turf field at Oakland High School. Representatives from Republic will be recognized prior to kickoff and in between the first and second quarter at Oakland’s first home game of the season, Friday, Aug. 30.

“Being a good neighbor and investing in our community is important to everyone on our team,” said Jeremy Jernigan, general manager of Republic’s Middle Point Landfill. “We know how much this project means to Oakland High School. It’s exciting for the players, fans and the community, and we are honored to be a part of it.”

The field update at Ray Hughes Stadium was approved by the Rutherford County school board June 20, and construction to install the “Legion NXT” turf field began later that month. Republic was the largest donor to the project.

“This was a project we had been considering for several years, and we’re extremely grateful to Republic Services for the generous donation to make it happen,” said David Schlacter, president of the Oakland Endzone Club. “We are looking forward to the chance to recognize the Republic team during our home opener and appreciate their ongoing partnership.”

Oakland High School is the defending 6A champion with a 2018 season record of 13–1. Oakland will play Kenwood High School in their first home game of the 2019 season. This will be the first game played on the new field.

“This field will be a game-changer, not only for our team, but for our entire community,” said Kevin Creasy, Oakland High School’s football coach. “I’ve been talking about getting a turf field since I interviewed for this job in 2015, and our entire team is grateful to Republic Services for helping make it a reality.”
