MYP Cornhole Tournament

Murfreesboro Young Professionals is challenging the community to a friendly game of cornhole for charity.

The third annual MYP Cornhole Tournament is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at MTSU Floyd Stadium.

The annual tournament is part of MYP’s charitable efforts.

"We do this every year to raise money for MTSU's Charitable Contributions Campaign, which donates close to over $15,000 annually to local charities such as United Way, Special Kids and the Boys and Girls clubs," explained Brad Hopkins, chairman of MYP's special events committee.

MYP wants its members to "Know. Be Known. Contribute." The group's charitable activities help create successful, well-rounded professionals and organizations, as well as benefit the community at large.

MYP's philanthropy is serious business, but that doesn't mean they don't have fun doing it.

So the group has translated a lawn game into a 21-and-over tournament that consists of a 48-team bracket style single elimination tournament. Teams will be competing for an awesome grand prize and serious bragging rights.

For those not familiar with the sport, cornhole is a game where players take turns throwing bean bags at a raised board with a hole in the far end. The first team to 21 points wins. It is also known as bean bag or sack toss.

If you want to give it a try, tickets are $25 for spectators or $75 for a two-person team. All tickets include a barbecue dinner and unlimited adult beverages.

You can also still register to sponsor and compete for:

• 2-Player Cornhole Team w/ Lane Sponsorship - $250
• 2-Player Cornhole Team w/ Lane Sponsorship (Discounted if you also sponsored MYP Trivia Night) - $150

To register contact Brad Hopkins 615-556-9239 or visit facebook.com/MurfreesboroYoungProfessionals. You can buy tickets here.
