National Day of Prayer

Discover a stillness that brings rest and healing as speaker Larissa Snorek discusses "The Healing Power of Stillness" at a National Day of Prayer presentation at 6:30 p.m. May 2 at Bradley Academy Museum and Cultural Center.

This free one-hour talk focuses on finding a deep-settled calm within ourselves that cannot be disrupted by fear or any outward disturbance.

Snorek will give individual examples of how the Bible and Church of Christ, Scientist, have brought lasting peace and complete healing.

"We'll be talking about being at peace with ourselves to find a deep stillness within that brings us a feeling of being close to God," Snorek said.

"Rather than just emptying out our mind to find stillness, we want to feel a vibrant, alive sense of being close to the divine presence," she continued. "Practicing stillness and finding this connection to God not only helps us deal with crazy busy schedules and a sense of stress and pressure, but it can also bring healing to our lives, to our relationships with others, and to the world."

Since 1952, the National Day of Prayer has been held on the first Thursday of May. Designated by the United States Congress, people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation."

Snorek was trained in mediation and conflict resolution in 1999.

"My background is in sustainable development and peacebuilding. I now work with anyone seeking a spiritual solution to life's problems," Snorek said.
