"The weather prediction is 70 degrees and sunny today for the 4th annual Hometown Heroes Walk for Children," said Child Advocacy Center director Sharon De Boer. "That is perfect walking weather." Opportunities to participate in the event are still available.

The Hometown Heroes Walk for Children will be held on Friday, April 26, at the Murfreesboro Civic Plaza, downtown on the Square.

Walkers can ride complimentary Rover shuttles from the Child Advocacy Center to the Civic Plaza from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Registration will be held at the Civic Plaza from 11:00-11:45 a.m., speakers and Hometown Hero Awards at 11:45 a.m., and the Walk will begin at 12:00 noon. The event will culminate with a picnic lunch, music, and presentation of the "Golden Sneakers" award at the Child Advocacy Center, located at 1040 Samsonite Blvd.

Local Hometown Hero #10 Boston Red Socks starting pitcher David Price is the event’s presenting sponsor.

The Child Advocacy Center is fielding telephone calls asking, "What does it cost to walk?" De Boer responded, "It is completely FREE to walk and join us for the picnic lunch. The goal of this event is to show Rutherford County child abuse victims through the huge turnout of walkers that our community supports them!"

The next most frequent question is "Who is winning in the Golden Sneakers Award?" Child Advocacy Center Accountant Jessica Wauchek who has been diligently recording all the walkers as they register for the event reports, "It is too close to call in the competition for the ‘Golden Sneakers’ Award. We will have to wait and see how many walkers register at Civic Plaza on Friday morning."

Walkers may register at the event from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Event t-shirts will be available to purchase for $15. For questions call the Child Advocacy Center at 615-867-9000.
