Hometown Heroes Walk for Children

Hometown Heroes Walk for Children will go on no matter the weather, announced Child Advocacy Center director Sharon De Boer.

"We will be walking rain or shine in the Hometown Heroes Walk for Children on Friday, April 26," De Boer said. "We are not going to let a few sprinkles slow us down!"

The Hometown Heroes Walk for Children will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Murfreesboro Civic Plaza, downtown on the Square.  Walkers can ride complimentary Rover shuttles from the Child Advocacy Center to the Civic Plaza from 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Registration will be held at the Civic Plaza from 11:00-11:45 a.m., speakers at 11:45 a.m., and the Walk will begin at 12:00 noon.  The event will culminate with a picnic lunch, music, and presentation of the "Golden Sneakers" award at the Child Advocacy Center, located at 1040 Samsonite Blvd.

The event’s presenting sponsor is local Hometown Hero #10 Boston Red Socks starting pitcher David Price.

In the last 19 years, the Child Protective Investigative Team, consisting of the Child Advocacy Center, the Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement, and the District Attorney’s Office have worked together to investigate and prosecute 14,420 child abuse cases, assisted over 21,000 individuals, and trained over 10,600 adults how to protect children from child sexual abuse.

Department of Children’s Services protects children. Law enforcement investigates the crime and arrests perpetrators. The District Attorney’s Office aggressively prosecutes offenders. While the Child Advocacy Center helps children and families heal from the trauma of the abuse.

"I am still praying for a beautiful sunny day on Friday," said Child Advocacy Center director Sharon De Boer.  "But bring your umbrella just in case we get a sprinkle or two."
