Hometown Heroes Walk for Children 'Golden Sneakers' Award

It is a hot competition between La Vergne Police Department, Murfreesboro Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney's Office, Department of Children's Services, the Guidance Center, and the Child Advocacy Center for who will have the most walkers at the 2019 Hometown Heroes Walk for Children.

Up for grabs to the winner of this competition is the "Golden Sneakers" award (pictured above). The organization that brings the most walkers to the event will win the coveted "Golden Sneakers."

The Child Protective Investigative Team has a long history of working closely together to investigate and prosecute child abuse, child sexual abuse, and drug endangered children cases. But it is every department for themselves in the competition for the "Golden Sneakers."

La Vergne Police Chief Mike Walker was over heard saying that everyone knows that Chief WALKER will have the most walkers at the event!

"Who would have ever thought that old pair of Goodwill sneakers spray painted gold would incite this fierce of a competition," said Child Advocacy Center director Sharon De Boer. The sleeper team this year may be Middle Tennessee Electric. As it stands right now they are in the lead with 42 walkers. But the Department of Children's Services is gaining on them!"

The 2018 "Golden Sneaker" award was presented to Mid Cumberland Head Start. They won with 49 walkers. "We are waiting to see how many walkers Mid Cumberland Head Start brings to the event," said Child Advocacy Center Accountant Jessica Wauchek. "Bragging rights are still up for grabs."

The Hometown Heroes Walk for Children will be held on Friday, April 26 at the Murfreesboro Civic Plaza, downtown on the square. Walkers can ride complimentary Rover shuttles from the Child Advocacy Center to the Civic Plaza from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Registration will be held at the Civic Plaza from 11:00-11:45 a.m., speakers at 11:45 a.m., and the Walk will begin at 12:00 noon. The event will culminate with a picnic lunch, music, and presentation of the "Golden Sneakers" award at the Child Advocacy Center, located at 1040 Samsonite Blvd.

Local Hometown Hero #10 Boston Red Socks starting pitcher David Price is the event's presenting sponsor.

Walkers are encouraged to pre-register at cacrutherford.org or you may register at the event. It is FREE to walk and join us for the picnic lunch. Event T-shirts may be purchased online and will be available to purchase for $15 at the event. For questions call the Child Advocacy Center at 615-867-9000.
