"Local Hometown Heroes individuals and businesses can support child abuse victims through the 4th annual Hometown Heroes Walk for Children," said Child Advocacy Center director Sharon De Boer.

"Child abuse victims should never have to pay for services to help them heal from the trauma of abuse," continued De Boer. "It takes the support of generous people in our community for the Center to provide critically needed services free of charge to children and families."

The Hometown Heroes Walk for Children will be held on Friday, April 26 at the Murfreesboro Civic Plaza, downtown on the Square. Registration will start at 11:00 a.m., speakers at 11:45 a.m., and the walk will begin at noon. Complimentary shuttles will run from the Child Advocacy Center to Civic Plaza from 10:30-11:15 a.m.

This FREE event will conclude with a picnic lunch at the Child Advocacy Center, located at 1040 Samsonite Blvd., Murfreesboro.

Local Hometown Hero Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price is the event’s presenting sponsor. His foundation Project One Four is one of many organizations supporting services for child abuse victims through the Hometown Heroes Walk for Children.

Eighty percent of the organization’s budget is funded by federal, state, and United Way grants while the remaining 20 percent has to be raised from the local community through fundraising events like the Hometown Heroes Walk for Children.

The Child Advocacy Center is a 501(c)3 organization providing safety, justice, and healing for victims of child abuse, child sexual abuse, and drug endangered children. For 19 years, the Child Advocacy Center has worked as part of a multidisciplinary team with law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, and Department of Children’s Services to investigate and prosecute over 20,000 child abuse case and help children and non-offending family members heal from the trauma.
