YMCA After Breast Cancer Program

The Murfreesboro Community YMCA After Breast Cancer Program is approaching our 11th year serving breast cancer survivors in the Murfreesboro and surrounding area.

The ABC program is a FREE YMCA outreach program that helps breast cancer patients on their journey. The participant can be newly diagnosed or several years out and ABC can help them on their breast cancer walk.

The program has served more than 800 survivors since April 2008!

One in seven women are diagnosed with breast cancer…only 10 percent are due to family history. The survival rate (if detected early and not a late stage) is 85 percent to 90 percent. Family history seemingly has little to do with the current rate of diagnoses. Monthly self-breast exams and mammography are key!

The ABC program is trying to address the physical, mental and emotional aspects of the breast cancer journey. It is designed by breast cancer survivors to help survivors!

We can help them re-gain their range of motion and start an exercise program designed specifically for breast cancer survivors with a Pink Ribbon Certified Breast Cancer Trainer. They get to meet with our Registered Dietician to help them make good healthy choices as a breast cancer survivor.

Then we offer a mental/emotional class with other survivors to deal with this aspect of the journey. Monthly meetings are held to provide current information and support.

ALL of this for four months FREE in partnership with the City Rec Centers.
