La Vergne voters can hear from candidates in local races in two forums on Thursday evening, October 18, at the La Vergne City Hall.

Hosted by the League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County in partnership with the City of La Vergne and its Media Services department, the forums will be aired on Comcast Channel 3 and AT&T U-verse Channel 99 in La Vergne.

The public is invited to attend. The recorded forums will also be available for later rebroadcast and online streaming.

At 6:00 PM, candidates for alderman will appear. Six candidates are on the ballot, and as of press time, five of those candidates have confirmed their participation.

The first forum is expected to last about 45 minutes. Following a brief recess, the two candidates for La Vergne mayor will appear beginning at 7:00 PM for approximately 30 minutes.

At the forums, candidates will introduce themselves and respond to a moderator's questions on a timed basis. A pool of questions for the moderator’s usage is compiled by a League committee using citizen input. Voters are invited to suggest questions to the League by emailing lwvrutherford@gmail.com.

Audience members should be seated 10 minutes prior to the forum start time. No one in attendance may wear or display any party or campaign materials during the forum.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
