A flag-raising ceremony was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13 celebrating the opening of Stones River Manor’s Advanced Care Center,  a 30-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility along with a new, 24-bed Assured Care Center for Alzheimer’s and dementia care.

The former Alzheimer’s unit, which was Tennessee’s first licensed dementia care facility, has now been renovated as their Select Care Center, a 10-bed special needs facility with transitional care for patients requiring additional care services following rehab.

CEO Kirk Mason originally announced the kick-off of a $4 million, three-year campaign to help fund the project at a special dinner in October 2015. A lead gift of $1 million was provided by the Christy-Houston Foundation. Now, two months away from the three-year mark, Mason says they are proud to announce that the campaign has exceeded its goal and currently stands at $4,120,596.00.

Stones River Manor was Murfreesboro’s first home for the aged and is Rutherford County’s only faith-based, nonprofit senior living community.

“The Manor” was founded and chartered in 1974 by local participating churches of Christ and opened in March of 1977 with 29 rooms. Over the years it has grown to include independent living apartments, a licensed 100-bed assisted living center, adult day care and respite care services, plus a full range of clinical and therapy services along with the new Advanced Care and Assured Care Centers just added.

Stones River Manor has received numerous awards in recent years for excellence in senior living. They have repeatedly earned the Award of Excellence from Seniors.com as one of the nation’s top one percent of senior care providers. The Manor has been named by the US Trade and Commerce Institute as the top assisted living center in Tennessee and, among other awards, also received the first Gold Level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for senior living and health care construction in the state of Tennessee.

Monday’s celebration featured the Manor’s first new patient to be admitted to the Advanced Care Center, former US Air Force Staff Sgt. Robert (Bobby) Hays.

In addition to members of the US Air Force Color Guard, who performed the flag-raising ceremony, members of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department and Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department were on hand to honor Hays and thank him for his service to our country.

Sandra Heaton, Admissions Specialist and Marketing Director for the Stones River Advanced Care Center served as master of ceremonies for the momentous event.

Mason stated that these new additions were the culmination of many years of planning and allow Stones River Manor to now provide the full spectrum of continuing care for seniors here in Rutherford County.
