Rutherford County government has acquired the new home for its Recovery Court Program, according to records from the Rutherford County Register of Deeds.

Tom and Betsy Johns deeded nearly an acre and the building at 525 N. University St. in Murfreesboro to Rutherford County government.

The former home of Middle Orthopedics & Sports will be used by the county as the new home for Recovery Court.

The total market appraisal for the lot is $609,000, according to the Rutherford County Property Assessor.

The Rutherford County Recovery Court is a court-ordered program that consists of three parts: Drug Court, DUI Court, and Veteran's Court. In these courts, the county's judicial system identifies defendants who violated the law because of addiction issues.

Once eligible offenders are identified, they participate in education and therapy to help them battle their addictions. The courts were created to help reduce recidivism.
