Rutherford and Wilson counties and cities are seeing a huge upswing in daylight smash-and-grab auto burglaries since New Year’s weekend.

These crimes are occurring at shopping centers, public parks and other public places.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin recommends to NEVER leave cash, purses, backpacks, briefcases, electronic devices or weapons in open view inside vehicles.

Vaults and safes for vehicles are commercially available and recommended.

Always lock your doors and try to park near security cameras if present.
