Oakland High School senior Joshua Jones was recently named the local level Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year for 2020.

Jones (above) will now compete on the state level. 

Jones, who got involved at 15, after experiencing significant setbacks with school, cited his mother Sabrina Jones, Oakland High and the Boys and Girls Club as his mentors. He has six brothers and sisters on his mother’s side of the family and another six siblings on his father’s side.

"When the Boys and Girls Club presented me with the opportunity to represent the club that had given me so much," he said, "I was going to do that."

His speech is titled "Leading by Example."
