Smyrna Christmas Parade

A team of 22 students from Stewarts Creek High School's video production program will broadcast Smyrna's 45th annual Christmas parade.

Town of Smyrna Manager Brian D. Hercules understands the value of workforce development and creating opportunities within the town to provide real-world experience for students. “Chris Bissinger (SCHS video production instructor) shared my vision for this partnership,” explained Hercules. “Residents that can't attend the parade have the opportunity to watch it livestreamed via Stewarts Creek TV, and we will air the taped version on Channel 3. We are excited to watch the students in action.”

Every aspect of the parade's broadcast and filming is student led. “These students have handled all elements of this project,” shared Bissinger. “From writing the script, graphic design, and technical preparation, this broadcast is a result of their effort. It is a tremendous opportunity for students to gain experience in the audio-visual career pathway.”

The Tennessee Department of Education provides the framework for pathways of study that are grouped by the knowledge and skills required for occupations in career fields. Olivia Norville and Jason Subbert are serving as co-hosts for the parade broadcast. Both students have selected theater and audio/visual production as their pathways of study. “The team for this project met, determined roles, and immediately went to work,” noted Olivia. “Jason and I are responsible for hosting the parade, which includes being calm under pressure. Anything can happen during a live broadcast.”

The 45th annual Town of Smyrna Christmas Parade is Sunday, December 1st, 2:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend, please visit the Town of Smyrna's website, www.townofsmyrna.org, for a link to SCHS students' live broadcast.
