Remains that may be missing youth Devin Bond were found Wednesday afternoon in Barfield area but the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting results from the state medical examiners office for identification, Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh said.

The remains were found in heavily wooded terrain, he said.

Search teams will resume looking for clues and other items Thursday that could lead to the identification. Once an identification is confirmed by the medical examiner, additional information will be released, the sheriff said.

After the Sheriff's Office announced human remains were discovered, Devin Bond's mother Heather Simmers announced via Facebook that they are her son.

On Tuesday, teams of Rutherford County emergency responders searched for Bond today on 1,000 acres at the Barfield-Crescent Road area of the county near Barfield Park.

Bond, a Riverdale High School student, disappeared March 31, 2017.

Sheriff’s Detective Will Pinson said the Barfield Crescent area is the last place where Bond showed his location on his cell phone. Since his disappearance, Pinson investigated information he received about Bond but there were no confirmed sightings of him.

Agencies participating in the search of about 1,000 acres include the Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency, Rutherford County Fire & Rescue Department, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services and the Special Operations Response Team, La Vergne Fire Department, Murfreesboro Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, La Vergne Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office.
