Elderly driver killed in freak accident at car wash

On Friday, June 21 at approximately 10 a.m., Murfreesboro Police Officers were dispatched to a car wash on South Church Street about a report of a serious injury crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed a female driving a 2016 Toyota Rav4 was attempting to pay using the automated machine, while holding one foot on the brake with the door open. The car rolled forward and the door hit a pole, pinning the victim.

Personnel with the Rutherford County Medical Services treated the patient on the scene with assistance from Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department. The driver was taken to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The victim has been identified as Alyce Phillips, 85, of Christiana.

The Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.T.) was activated and is investigating the crash.
