Sawyer Drive shooting sends 1 to hospital, 1 to jail

A 29-year-old man is recovering from a gunshot wound and the man who shot him is facing attempted homicide charges following an incident Tuesday, May 21, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department. 

Around 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1000 block of Sawyer Drive. Upon arrival, Officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound to his arm.

The shooter was reported to have left on foot according to witnesses. Within minutes, he was located and taken into custody without incident in the 1500 block of Jones Boulevard.

The victim, Raymond Diaz, 29, was treated on scene by Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services and Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department personnel and transported to Vanderbilt University Hospital.

The suspect, Jose Francisco Giron Amaya, 26, has been charged with Attempted Homicide and is in police custody.
