The pedestrian hit and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night, March 19, in the 2400 Block of S. Church Street (Hwy 231) has been identified as Julio A. Martinez, 58, of Orlando, FL.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. Murfreesboro Police Officers were dispatched to the location for a report of a serious injury crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation revealed Martinez had just left Pizza Hut and was attempting to cross the multi-lane street in front of the Pilot Truck Stop when he was struck by a vehicle.

Martinez was treated on the scene by personnel with the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services (RCEMS). He was transported by RCEMS to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Early indication is that the driver of the vehicle was not at fault, but the investigation is ongoing. The Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.T.) is investigating.
