Woman found shot in face identified

The victim in the fatal shooting on Forrest Street Wednesday, March 13 has been identified as Carmen E. Simmons, 18, of Christiana. 

Murfreesboro Police officers responded to the 400 block of Forrest Street, at approximately 9:44 p.m., to a report of a female possibly not breathing.

Upon arrival, officers found Simmons suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.

Simmons was taken to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“The victim died from a gunshot wound,” police Detective Sgt. Tommy Massey said. “However, the manner of death is still unknown.”

Detectives have interviewed possible witnesses and are trying to figure out how Simmons sustained the gunshot wound.

The investigation is still ongoing.

At approximately 9:44 Wednesday night March 13, Murfreesboro Police officers responded to the 400 block of Forrest Street to a report of a female possibly not breathing.

Upon arrival officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.

The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

This is an active and ongoing investigation to determine how the woman received the gunshot wound. No additional information is available at this time.
