2 teens die in Saturday night crash on Fortress Boulevard

Around 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash near 586 Fortress Blvd.

The crash involved a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck and a 2018 Nissan Titan pickup truck. The investigation revealed the Sierra was traveling northbound on Fortress when it crossed into the oncoming lanes of traffic and collided with the Titan.

Personnel of Rutherford County Emergency Medical services initially responded on foot due to the proximity to their station and found the occupants of the Sierra ejected and gravely injured and the occupants of the Titan with minor injuries.

RCEMS was assisted on scene by members of Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department.

The passenger of the Sierra, a 17-year-old from Smyrna, was transported to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of theSierra, Eric King, 18, of Murfreesboro, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Both occupants of the Titan -- William Stephens, 46, and Christy Stephens, 42, both of Rockvale -- were transported to Stonecrest Medical Center. The driver, William Stephens, was treated and released. The passenger, Christy Stephens, remains hospitalized.

The crash is still under investigation by the Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.T.). The initial investigation has determined not wearing seatbelts to be factors in the deaths.
