COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men's golf turned in a second consecutive round of 9-over par 297 on the second day of the Intercollegiate at The Grove but managed to move up the team leaderboard one spot at the end of 36 holes of play.

The Blue Raiders shaved six strokes off of their front nine score from day one but gave all six back on the back nine as the wind picked up in the afternoon.

"I was pleased with the overall performance from the team today," Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "I'm excited that our young guys are continuing to get experience that will undoubtedly help them in the future. Now the goal for tomorrow is to continue improving and move up the leaderboard."

Strong rounds from upperclassmen Tanner Owens and James Beckner pushed both up the leaderboard on day two. Owens turned in a 2-under par 70 to move into a tie for 11th while Beckner's even par 72 saw him climb 11 spots into a tie for 29th.

"We got another fantastic round from Tanner Owens today," McEntire added. "Back-to-back rounds under par over the last two days is very strong. Solid round today from James Beckner as well and a great comeback. I hope he gets to finish off his career at The Grove with a red number tomorrow."

Freshman Jake Marvelli also improved for MT on day two, cutting five strokes off of his first round score to card a 4-over 76 on Monday.

Middle Tennessee sits eight strokes back of College of Charleston 10 back of Cincinnati and 11 behind Kentucky with the final 18 holes to be played on Tuesday.

The Blue Raiders will begin teeing off at 8:50 a.m. on day three alongside College of Charleston. Marvelli will lead things off followed by Gosselin, Sadlowski, Beckner and Owens. MT individual Josh Morris starts his day at 7:46 a.m.
