Pedestrian killed in crash on South Church

A Murfreesboro man was killed Tuesday night, Aug. 7, after he was struck by a car on South Church Street, according to a news release from the Murfreesboro Police Department.

MPD officers responded to a crash at approximately 9:10 p.m. Aug. 7 near 2020 S. Church St.

The crash involved a 2018 Honda Fit, driven by John Woodall, and a pedestrian, later identified asDouglas Burton, 39, of Murfreesboro.

The investigation revealed Woodall, 72, of Lebanon was traveling south on South Church Street and struck Burton who was crossing the street.

Burton was treated on scene by Murfreesboro Fire Rescue personnel and Rutherford County Emergency Services who transported him to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital for LifeFlight transfer to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was pronounced deceased at Vanderbilt a short time later.

Woodall was not injured.

No charges have been filed at this time, however, the investigation is ongoing.
