Brian Hercules is the new Smyrna Town Manager, effective July 1, the Town of Smyrna announced.

Harry Gill, Smyrna’s Town Manager since November 2013, announced in February that he will retire in August of this year. Gill will stay on board through August 31st to enable a smooth transition.

“Brian Hercules is a tremendous addition to our team,” Smyrna Mayor Mary Esther Reed said. “His leadership abilities will continue to build upon the strong foundation laid by our previous Town Managers and help Smyrna move forward.”

Hercules worked previously with United Cities Gas Company/Atmos Energy as a sales representative, town manager and sales manager for the Southeastern Region. As sales manager, he directed residential, commercial and industrial marketing efforts for a three-state territory.

In 2009, he left Atmos to become president/chief executive officer of the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties.

Since 2012, Hercules has held the position of Senior Vice President of Economic Development with the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.

He is a past board member of the Tennessee Economic Development Council Board of Directors, the Southern Economic Development Council and serves as Chair of the Tennessee Economic Partnership. He is also a past president of the Blue Raider Athletic Association and a member of the Murfreesboro Noon Rotary.
