CarMax buys land in 'Car Corridor'

In April, CarMax Auto Superstore bought the more than 11 acres needed for its new Murfreesboro car lot, according to records from the Rutherford County Register of Deeds.

The national car retailer bought 6.53 acres on Bill Smith Drive for $3.27 million from Puckett Creek Station LLC on April 18 and the remainder for $3.1 million from the Janice Smith Revocable Trust on April 19.

CarMax will become the fifth car lot near the intersection of Medical Center Parkway and Fortress Drive, joining Toyota of Murfreesboro, Chevy of Murfreesboro, Honda of Murfreesboro and Nelson Mazda.

According to previous reports, CarMax plans to invest between $10 million and $25 million in a new 38,996-square-foot building. The plan, which was approved by the Murfreesboro Planning Commission in September 2017, will house between 200 and 400 vehicles.

Other transactions of note

Rocky Fork Partners bought nearly 80 acres at 8319 Rocky Fork Almaville Rd. in Smyrna for $1.525 million from Shawn Collins on April 6.

Rocky Fork Partners also bought 30 acres at 8575 Rocky Fork Almaville Rd. in Smyrna for $575,342.40 from SC2 Properties on April 6.

Arendelle Properties bought 806 Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro for $1.4 million from the Michael Colt Automotive Group on April 24.

Volunteer Behavioral Health Care System bought a lot in the Gateway Office Park off Medical Center Parkway for $1.273 million from Mark Pirtle Gateway LLC on April 24.

Bob Parks sold 13.57 acres in Marymont Springs on Rucker Lane in Murfreesboro to Alcorn Properties for $1.225 million on April 24.

Freegard Partners X bought 2 acres at 3447 Memorial Blvd. in Murfreesboro for $755,000 from Geraldine Demastus on April 23.

Diona Acquisitions bought a 1.16-acre lot in the Lee Village commercial development on Almaville Road in Smyrna for $700,000 from SV20P LLC on April 23. Lee Village is anchored by Publix Supermarket.

O'Reilly Automotive Stores bought 1962 Almaville Rd. in Smyrna for $650,000 from Palmetto Smyrna-Almaville Rd. LLC on April 18.

Rutherford Park LP bought a 5-acre lot on John Rice Boulevard near Agri-Park Drive in Murfreesboro for $565,000 from Beach and Farrer Properties on April 19.

A total of 90 residential lots were sold from April 6-30.

Most expensive houses

William and Patricia Wade bought 1710 E. Main St. in Murfreesboro for $885,000 on April 11.

The historic home, also called "Daffodil Hill," was built in 1860 by Capt. Edwin Arnold.

When built its was an L-shaped plan with a foyer, men’s and women’s parlors, a formal dining room, two bedrooms upstairs, a large landing separating the two living quarters and detached kitchen.

It was restored to its former glory in the 1990s by Kirby McNabb who updated the home with a formal living room, modern kitchen, two-story back porch and courtyard with a fountain.

It was most recently owned by Dena Young and Michael Humnicky.
