Music Spotlight: The Dugger Band

When I heard the Dugger Band and their hit song "True Colors," I knew I wanted to feature them as soon as time allowed. Jordan and Seth Dugger are from Greenville, Tennessee. They are known for their energetic, high-velocity country sound that emphasizes family harmony and faith-driven storytelling.

They come from a musical family: their father and his siblings were part of a Southern Gospel Band, and their mother was raised singing in church as well. Growing up, they were always around a touring bus. So, it was no surprise when the pair chose music as their career path.

Though their father was a singer, he was also a drummer, so the boys learned drums first. But initially, they were focused on sports. Jordan explained, "We were playing three sports each and doing band and chorus. I learned to play the sax, and Seth learned to play the trumpet."

When Jordan broke his leg at basketball camp, he was laid up (before smartphones) and was bored out of his mind. That's when he got serious about guitar, and Seth learned to play the fiddle. When they were teens, they were down a bass player, and Jordan encouraged Seth to learn it until they could find somebody.

Seth stated, "I think we kind of always had the idea that we wanted to do music. We went through school without really knowing if we were good enough to do music full-time. We always dreamed of doing it. But we both went to college and earned our degrees in separate fields. Jordan graduated with an architecture degree, and then I graduated a couple of years later with a finance degree. At that point, we were both just like, 'Hey, let's just give this a go.'"

Both being single, there was no reason they couldn't go all in, so in 2015, they moved to Nashville, where they kept building and grinding. Like many, the Duggers played the bars on Broadway, which gave them experience and helped them pay rent.

Jordan began songwriting and even put out a record before moving to Nashville, but covering number one songs in the bars made them think more deeply about the music.

Seth stated, "Playing the hits in front of the crowds on Broadway, just getting to see what a song feels like, what goes over well in front of an audience, and then just being able to take, 'Okay, what made this song work? Why did the people like this song? Why do they react this way to this song?' And so being able to take those ideas and that really helped us with songwriting."

In 2018, the brothers put of the EP, East Tennessee Son, and the title track speaks to those of us from East Tennessee. Other popular tracks from the EP include "Warning Label" and "For the Girl."

In 2020, Jordan and Seth teamed up with songwriter Bill Diluigi to write "Good Ride," which has become one of their most popular singles. It's based on a true story, and each co-writer contributed to the storyline.

The song "Shot Caller" has the country vibe we have come to love. But the party song "Greek To Me," released in 2023, has of more pop feel. You will even catch Seth beatboxing. Their goal was to reach the college crowd as they try to figure out their life, which is "all Greek to me."

When "True Colors" came out earlier this year, fans immediately connected with the pro-American anthem. The song was inspired by their grandfather, who served in World War II, and was featured on this year's Fox News' Independence Day Special. They also received lots of support from their good buddy, John Rich.

One thing that drew me to the Dugger Band was their variety. They are a very country band with plenty of steel guitar and fiddle, but do hesitate to add sax or brass if they think the song could benefit from it.

Seth shared, "We like to keep it unique and pull in all the different musical elements that we enjoy, with us playing sax and trumpet in high school and middle school. We have always loved brass as well. We've incorporated that into some of our country stuff. And we do Christmas stuff that utilizes that even more. We like to do our own thing and do what we feel sounds cool, not worry about what the trends are or anything like that, but just trying to make music we enjoy."

As a matter of fact, the Dugger Band recently released a 5-song EP called Smoky Mountain Christmas, featuring four original tracks and their version of "Silent Night." Their songs are new and fresh, and perfect to get you in the holiday spirit.

You will get a "Baby It's Cold Outside" vibe from their original "Christmas Lights On." But the title track, "Smoky Mountain Christmas," may be my favorite new Christmas song this year.

"We love Christmas," Seth confirmed. "One of the first shows that we ever did as a band was a Christmas show. We've always loved putting out Christmas music."  Playing Christmas shows has always been a treat for the uber-talented duo.

Now, with multiple hit singles, national performances, and a growing fan base, the Duggers have carved out a distinct place in today's country music landscape through authentic songwriting and harmony-rich artistry. Keep an eye out for them in 2026 to see what they have in store for us next.
