Music Spotlight: Morgan Myles

Morgan Myles first captured national attention in 2022 when she was a top-three finalist on NBC's The Voice, where she was on team Camila. She is known for having the fastest four-chair turn-around in the show's history.

I wanted to learn the story behind that mighty voice that charmed America and the judges alike.

Myles was born and raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. And while her family wasn't particularly musical, they were supportive. They enrolled her in dance and piano lessons from the age of five. Living just 3 hours from New York City, musicals became a big part of her life in high school, and she participated in NYU's Tisch programs. After graduation, Myles enrolled in the Berklee College of Music but transferred to Belmont after one year, on the advice of A&R personnel at Sony Music.

Besides attending the Music Business School, Myles interned at record labels, including Big Machine, during their Taylor Swift era. All the while, she was trying to figure out how to tell her story as a songwriter.

She recalled, "I remember sitting there singing a Hillary Lindsey song that they gave me, and they were like, 'Every note's perfect, but you need to go get your heart broken.' That was pretty heavy for an 18-year-old to hear."

Myles' foray into the music industry was pre-TikTok. "Back then, you took baby steps. You did the songwriting rounds. You showed up every night after trying to network and going through all those awkward moments."

ecord is the anthem, "I Believe." The song came from a vulnerable place about losing her close cousin to brain cancer recently. This faith-inspired, soulful gospel-style song stems from Myles' spiritual background, which has helped her through her most challenging times in life.

In 2020, Myles released her record Therapy. Her vocals soar on the title track and the song "Sanctuary". But the highlight of the r

There was and is no denying Myles' unmatched vocal abilities, but what she initially lacked was exposure, especially during and after the pandemic.

Myles had endured Nashville's ups and downs for 17 years when he finally agreed to audition for The Voice. The casting agent had been after her for nine years. At first, she was against it, but in 2021, when she caught her booking agent committing fraud, she decided, "Okay, why not?"

She explained, "I felt like I was doing all the right things, but every time I got closer to having a moment, I kept getting kicked down by something. So that's why I went on The Voice."

When Myles sang Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," she garnered the fastest four-chair turn-around ever during the blind auditions. But the pop-country singer surprised the judges when she chose Camila Cabello over Blake Shelton for her coach. She explained, "I wanted a female to represent me and my story, and Camila used her one block on Gwen, so we were down to that. We were very similar humans, and our friendship grew during that time on the show."

She continued to wow the world with her renditions of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball," "What the World Needs Now is Love," Beyonce's "If I Were a Boy," Chris Stapleton's  "Tennessee Whiskey," and Lady Gaga's "Always Remember Us This Way" which propelled into the Season 22 finale, where she placed 3rd.

A few weeks after Season 22 concluded on The Voice, another one of Myles' dreams came true as she was asked to make her Grand Ole Opry debut, which she did on January 6, 2023. At it, the singer-songwriter sang the highly personal "Sanctuary" and the biographical story song, "Woman of My Word."

Early in 2025, she released the album "Live From the Apogee Studio," which features Myles' stripped-down vocals in the most magnificent format possible. And while the music streaming services often don't support live music, she felt the world needed to hear "what's real."

She shared, "It's completely raw so that when they're putting on this vinyl, they can sit down and they feel like they're at a live show. And when they come out, they're going to hear the same thing. It's going to be that authentic."

Now, she is set to release a full studio album in early 2026 and has gifted us with a 4-song EP, Laced, as a preview. The EP follows a deeply personal chapter in Myles' life, as she publicly shared the end of her engagement earlier this year. She documented the process in a candid "30-day healing journey" TikTok series, resonating with fans by sharing some vulnerable moments.

The title track, "Laced," is a pretty heavy song. "It's about someone's love being laced with hate, like a bad needle in the vein. Metaphorically, it's the side of love that you're addicted to, but for all the wrong reasons," Myles stated.

The second song, "Weight of Your Words," is for that moment when you are completely done. She explained, "It's about those manipulative, empty apologies from a toxic ex – words meant to pull you back in. Eventually, you see through it all. This song was my release, my way of saying, 'Enough is enough. I'm not listening anymore.'"

The EP is rounded out by the anthemic, "Que Sera Seranade" and the hopeful, "How Does That Sound?"

When I think of that record executive who told young Myles that she "needed to get her heart broken," so she would become a more passionate singer-songwriter, I don't think he knew the scope of the words he foreshadowed. If anyone has put in her dues and earned her stripes, it's her.

Morgan Myles has one of the most achingly beautiful voices of anyone I have ever encountered. You feel her pain when she sings, but you also celebrate her joy. She has the fiery grit of Miranda Lambert and Elle King, but with the vocal prowess of Carrie Underwood and Aretha Franklin. I can't think of a better combination.
