Anyone who follows classic country music will be familiar with Moe Bandy, a honky tonk hitmaker who rose to fame in the 1970s. As one of America's all-time leading classic country music artists, Moe Bandy's long string of hits includes "Bandy The Rodeo Clown," "Hank Williams, You Wrote My Life," "Till I'm Too Old To Die Young," It's "It's A Cheatin' Situation," "Just Good Ol' Boys," "Barstool Mountain," "I Cheated Me Right Out of You," "I Just Started Hatin' Cheatin' Songs Today," "Holding The Bag" and dozens of other chart-toppers.
And while Bandy boasts 10 #1 hits and 40 Top Ten hits, he has created a cover album of classical country songs he didn't initially release but is very fond of. Songs I Missed is a tribute to some of the greatest country songs of all time.
"These were some of my favorite songs," he stated. "Songs I played years before I even had a hit record."
While the songs certainly have the "Moe Bandy" sound, he didn't compromise their integrity, so they are readily recognizable to the fans.
Moe Bandy was born in Mississippi, but his family moved to San Antonio, Texas, when he was six. In his teen years, he and his brother rode bulls and horses in rodeos all over Texas. Because of this, Bandy's music career heavily features Texas-style, honky-tonk tunes, which reflect his Texas roots.
That's why Bandy has also included the Texas country standards "Amarillo By Morning," "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind," and George Strait's "All My Ex's Live in Texas" on the Songs I Missed album.
Because some of the biggest country music fans are truck drivers, including songs to honor them makes sense.
One of the songs Bandy covers is Dave Dudley's "Six Days On The Road."
"Six Days On The Road" is a truck-driving standard in country music.
Bandy shared, "Over the years, I have often thought about recording it and was determined to include it on my new album, Songs I Missed. It's one of my favorite songs, and he was one of my favorite artists."
Another trucker song you won't want to miss is "Truck Driving Man," made famous by the legendary Buck Owens.
Bandy stated, "He was one of my heroes, and I was glad I got to do a few shows with him. Truck-driving songs played a huge role in country music history, and I didn't want to leave this one out—I hope you like my version."
Other songs from the album that were previewed ahead of release day include covers of Ronnie Milsap's "Pure Love," a song he wished he had gotten to first, the iconic George Jones hit "He Stopped Loving Her Today," Ray Price's' "Heartaches By the Number," and Merle Haggard's soulful, "You Don't Have Very Far To Go," four classics that have stood the test of time.
In conclusion, Bandy asserted, "I have been so blessed making a living as an entertainer and meeting so many of my heroes along the way. Meeting and becoming good friends with those who paved the way is something you can't describe. That's why I decided it was time to record my version of some of the biggest hits in country music that I wished I could have recorded from the beginning."
Bandy honors his heroes by acknowledging them as the legends they are. He brings his heart and spirit to these beloved songs, paying tribute to the golden era of country music while making it uniquely his own
